The Squale 30 ATMOS Alpine Green GMT Ceramica ref. 1545ALP is the latest model introduced by Squale. Made in Switzerland and powered by a Swiss Made ETA 2893-2 automatic movement with quickset GMT and date function. This is the first sunburst green dial with matching green ceramic GMT bezel model introduced by Squale in their 50 years of watchmaking history. Based on a vintage diver model produced by Squale in the 1960s with the added feature of a GMT function.
The scratch-resistant alpine green ceramic bezel is somewhat rare in the current watch industry. And the ceramic nature of the bezel gives it a “wet” look, mimicking the effect of a bakelite bezel on vintage dive watches.
Moving on to the dial, this is where the Alpine Green GMT Ceramica radiates its charm with a unique sunburst green dial. Firstly, it matches the bezel color theme, giving it a “nature inspired” theme, that reflects the colors that you will find in the woods. Further, what makes it unique is that it has a fume/smokey effect- whereby at the minute markers ring, it's almost black and graduating to a lighter shade of green towards the middle of the dial.
Secondly, its hands design is synonymous to Squale diver watches for centuries. Making this instantly recognizable even from far. A real classic in the making, which I am sure collectors can agree with. The hour markers are applied with silver trims. When paired with the polished handsets, contrast nicely with the yellow GMT hand. Did we also mention that the “GMT” wordings below at 6 o’clock is the same yellow as the GMT hand? All these reflect Squale's dedication in designing each of their timepieces. The color theme and design provide a refined yet sporty character that can transform from diving to dining instantly. Truly versatile, and worthy of Squale’s watchmaking philosophy.
To top it up, and for the first time in the 30 Atmos collection, the Alpine Green GMT Ceramica has a flat sapphire crystal without a magnifier, giving the wearer a more seamless and unobtrusive view of the dial. The sapphire crystal is also coated with anti-reflective on the inside for better clarity.
Good looks are appreciated but performance matters more, and with the ease of operations, not only is this a very easy to read, it's a pleasure to operate. The large screw-down crown is very easy to grip and it screws in and out without any sense of roughness in the screw threads contributed largely also by the larger than usual screw tube.
Entirely designed and hand finished in Switzerland the watch is satin brushed on the top, and high polished on the sides to a very high standard, again synonymous with Squale. The transitions between brushed and polished parts are well defined like every other Squale watch. The 120 clicks unidirectional rotating bezel clicks positively with little play for added confidence.
Measuring at 42mm and 13mm thin. The 30 ATMOS has yet again set a new standard in the price segment. The short lugs to lugs length of 49mm are curved downwards for a very comfortable and wrap around fit.
The Squale 30 ATMOS Alpine Green GMT Ceramica is quite the watch, it has a little fun with its colorway and design, yet Squale keeps the overall package faithful. We love the originality that goes into this particular model especially the continuation of the Squale dial and hands design language. And not to mention the unique color on the ceramic bezel and sunburst green dial. If you are in the market for a well built well-priced watch and wants to stand out in the crowd, this is the watch to definitely worth considering.
